Smart Growth America
Smart Growth America is a coalition of national, state and local organizations
working to improve the ways we plan and build the towns, cities and metro
areas we call home. The coalition includes many of the best-known national
organizations advocating on behalf of historic preservation, the environment,
farmland and open space preservation, neighborhood revitalization and
more. Our state- and regional-level members are community-based organizations
working to save treasured landscapes while making our towns and cities
ever more livable and lovable. LINK>
City of Cleveland’s final Waterfront District
Plan
On September 20, 2005, Mayor Jane L. Campbell unveiled the City of Cleveland’s
final Waterfront District Plan and spoke about the progress that we have
already seen along our lakefront as a result of this comprehensive planning
process.
“We will no longer be separated from our waterfront by highways,” said
Mayor Campbell. “Instead residents and visitors will experience
the lake through increased access and development.”
Mayor Campbell identified numerous projects that have already been completed
as a result of the Lakefront Plan totaling an investment of over $100
million generated through public and private partnerships. She also identified
an additional $395 million in lakefront related projects that are currently
underway.

Operation Fresh Start: Community Planning
Whether relocating an entire town or rebuilding a section for disaster
mitigation, sustainable redevelopment requires careful planning and design.
Collective decisions must be made on factors that directly determine sustainability
such as land use or "city shape," buildings, transportation,
energy supply and efficiency, waste management, and water supply and efficiency.
